Important Fully Catholic Radio App Update — And An Apology to Our Listeners
Please click the PLAY button below to listen to audio
We are pleased to let our listeners know that a new version of the Fully Catholic Radio Android app is now available on the Google Play Store.
This update addresses an issue that we recently discovered with the way artwork was being displayed within the app. Because of the nature of that issue, we also want to take this opportunity to explain what happened and to offer our sincere apologies to anyone who may have encountered inappropriate imagery while using the app.
What Happened?
The Fully Catholic Radio app had been configured to retrieve artwork automatically from external internet sources based on the title and metadata of the song currently being played.
Unfortunately, what we discovered was that the artwork displayed was not always artwork supplied, selected or approved by Fully Catholic Radio.
We became aware of the seriousness of this problem when we received calls from listeners that the app displayed an inappropriate image that was completely contrary to the Christian nature of the song and to the Catholic identity and mission of Fully Catholic Radio.
We were deeply concerned when we discovered this.
The inappropriate images were not created, selected, uploaded or approved by Fully Catholic Radio. It resulted from the app’s previous method of automatically retrieving artwork from an external source.
Nevertheless, it appeared within our app, and for that we sincerely apologize to any listener who may have seen or encountered any inappropriate or unrelated artwork while listening to Fully Catholic Radio.
What Have We Done About It?
As soon as the problem was identified, we contacted the developer responsible for the current Fully Catholic Radio Android app and requested that the artwork system be changed.
The updated version of the app has now been released through Google Play.
With this update, the app is no longer intended to depend upon randomly sourced external artwork for individual songs. Instead, a fixed Fully Catholic Radio image is used, while the title and information for the song currently playing can continue to change.
This gives us much greater control over what our listeners see and helps ensure that the visual presentation of Fully Catholic Radio remains consistent with the Catholic identity of our ministry.
We have begun testing the updated app on multiple Android devices and will continue monitoring it.
Please Update Your Fully Catholic Radio App
If you already have the Fully Catholic Radio app installed, your device may update it automatically. However, automatic updates do not necessarily happen immediately on every Android device.
We therefore encourage you to check manually:
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android phone or tablet.
- Search for Fully Catholic Radio.
- Select the Fully Catholic Radio app.
- If you see Update, tap it and allow the update to complete.
- Once the update has finished, open the app and continue listening as usual.
If you see Open rather than Update, your device may already have the latest version.
There is no need to uninstall the app first. Simply use the Update option if Google Play offers it.
If You Notice Anything Unusual, Please Tell Us
Although we have tested the new version on several Android devices, we would greatly appreciate the help of our listeners.
If, after updating, you notice incorrect or inappropriate artwork, problems with the Now Playing information, difficulty streaming, or anything else that does not appear to be working correctly, please contact us at:
If possible, please include the type of Android device you are using and a brief description of what you observed.
Thank You — And Once Again, Our Apologies
Fully Catholic Radio exists to share the joy of the Catholic faith and to help lead people into a deeper encounter with Jesus Christ.
Everything presented through this ministry should serve that mission.
We therefore take seriously anything appearing through our platforms that is inconsistent with our Catholic faith or that could cause confusion, offence or scandal.
We sincerely apologize to anyone who encountered inappropriate artwork through the previous version of the app, and we thank those who brought the matter to our attention.
We are also grateful to our listeners for their patience while the necessary technical changes were made and the updated app went through the Google Play approval process.
Please continue to pray for Fully Catholic Radio and for all those involved in this ministry. And please continue to share the station with family, friends and others who may benefit from Catholic music, prayer, Scripture, teaching and reflection throughout their day.
Tune in. Pray with us. Share the joy of the faith.
