Mercy From The Heart Of God

It gave me a great joy when I learned the Holy Father Pope Francis declared a year of mercy for the universal Church.

Mercy comes from the heart of God. But what exactly is mercy? I sometimes think of mercy as selling good to someone who has bought evil.

In essence as sinners, we bought evil. God however in his love sold us good, free of course through the blood of Jesus Christ.

It is often much easier to extend mercy when the ‘offence’ is minor. It is much more difficult when the ‘offense’ is greater. For this reason we should always ask God to bless us with a merciful heart. Only this special gift from God will help us to forgive the big sins committed against us.

Jesus commands his followers to be merciful just as your heavenly Father is merciful. This should be our attitude as we enter this year of mercy. May we all strive to be merciful especially on those occasions when mercy seem impossible. By so doing we remember that we are forgiven as often as we forgive others.
