He Has Gone To Prepare A Home For Us His Beloved
This weekend, the Church celebrates the glorious feast of the Ascension of the Lord.
And perhaps one of the most beautiful truths hidden within the Ascension is this:
Jesus did not leave us behind…
He went ahead of us to bring us home.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus lovingly tells His disciples:
“In my Father’s house there are many rooms…
I am going to prepare a place for you.”
— John 14:2
What a powerful image.
Think of someone deeply in love.
At first, they spend time together — talking, walking, learning each other’s heart.
But eventually, love desires something deeper.
Love desires home.
A man who truly loves does not simply want to visit the woman he loves occasionally.
He wants to bring her home — to live together, to share life together, to remain together.
And this is exactly what Jesus has done for us.
He came down from Heaven.
He walked among us.
He healed the sick.
He forgave sinners.
He ate with His disciples.
He laughed with them.
He wept with them.
He suffered for them.
He died for them.
And after His Resurrection, He ascended to the Father — not to abandon us, but to prepare our eternal home.
The Ascension is not Jesus “leaving.”
It is Jesus opening Heaven.
It is Jesus taking our humanity into the very heart of the Father.
It is Jesus saying:
“I want you with Me forever.”
And because He loves us so completely, He did not leave us alone while we journey toward that home.
He promised the Holy Spirit.
“It is better for you that I go.
For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you.”
— John 16:7
The Holy Spirit is Heaven’s gift to the Church — guiding us, strengthening us, comforting us, and preparing our hearts for the day we will finally be home with God.
The Ascension reminds us that this world is not our final destination.
We were made for more.
We were made for eternity.
We were made for the Father’s house.
And even now, Jesus is preparing a place for you.
Not a temporary place.
Not a place to visit.
Home.
🙏 Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ,
You ascended into Heaven not to leave us behind,
but to open the gates of eternal life for us.
Thank You for loving us so deeply
that You desire for us to be with You forever
in the house of the Father.
When our hearts grow weary, remind us that Heaven is our true home.
When we feel lost, guide us by Your Holy Spirit.
When we are afraid, strengthen us with the promise of eternal life.
Teach us to live each day longing for You,
trusting in You,
and walking faithfully toward the place You have prepared for us.
Holy Spirit, lead us ever closer to Jesus.
And Blessed Mother Mary, help us to keep our eyes fixed on Heaven.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. ✨
A home where there is no more pain.
No more tears.
No more loneliness.
No more death.
Only love.
Only peace.
Only God.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Lead us home. ✨
