Catholic Catechism

What is sin?

Sin is any word or act or a desire that goes contrary to God’s eternal law. It is an offense against God in disobedience to his love. It rejects God’s love for us. It is an act of turning away from God. It homes in human nature and injures and human solidarity. If you want to understand the seriousness of sin, and take a look at the passion of Jesus Christ who overcame it with his mercy.
