The Power Of The Rosary For Trinidad And Tobago

The Power Of The Rosary And How It Can Transform Any Situation.

Today, the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Catholic church in the Archdiocese of Port of Spain under the organization of the Evangelization Commission, held a day of national prayer and fasting, praying primarily for the crime situation in Trinidad and Tobago.

The day began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 8 a.m. Holy Mass was celebrated by Father John Theodore, who used as his theme “The Power Of The Rosary”. During his homily, Father John reminded the congregation that today was in fact the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. He went on to further remind the congregation that, “when we speak of Our Lady of Lourdes, we speak of the Rosary.” “The prayer of Mary”, said Father John, “is the most powerful prayer in the world, and we learn this from the bible.” Father Theodore highlighted that the Prophet Isaiah in chapter 59 verses 1 – 3, says that God told the people that he could not hear their prayers because of their sins. It is our sins that weakens our prayers.

Starting with this explanation, Father John Theodore went on to explain why the rosary is, in fact the most powerful prayer in the world. He gave quite a number of examples of how the power of the Rosary brought about breakthroughs in various situations; from closing down abortion clinics, protection from evil, to entire nations praying the Rosary and being averted from disaster.

Here in Trinidad and Tobago with the current crime situations that we face, we have tried a number of things including a changes in government that many believed would make a difference, but it hasn’t.  We need to attack the root of our problem which is not a political one.  Now please do not get me wrong.  Proper laws and the upkeep of these laws will help to some extent. The root cause of our problem is sin! The only thing that can combat sin is prayer.  Here is where the power of the Rosary can be seen. Like Fr. John shared, I too believe that if more Catholics understood the power of the Rosary and prayed the Rosary daily for the transformation of hearts, we will see a reduction in crime and violence in our country.

To that end, I would like to encourage every Catholic to pray – pray the Rosary for the conversion of sinners; for the transformation of hearts, and remain committed to this prayer.  Change will not happen overnight, but if with earnest hearts, we persevere in prayer, we will see the power of the Rosary in the form of a reduction in crime and a transformed nation.
