All For Man

God created everything for man. "For man is more precious in God's eyes than all other creatures. For him the heavens and the earth exist. God did not spare his own Son for the sake of man. Nor does he ever cease to work until he has made him sit at his right hand" (St. John Chrysostom).

So precious are we mortal and sinful man in the eyes of God. Shouldn't we be eternally thankful to Him? Shouldn't we freely worship Him?

Catholics and the Crucifix

  • PDF
Many of my Pentecostal friends have challenged me on why Catholics have crucifixes in their churches and homes, since Jesus is risen.  Why do we keep Him on the cross?

Crucifix or Plain cross? We Catholics leave the corpus on our crosses. When we stand before a crucifix, we stand with Jesus crucified, John the Beloved, Mary the Mother of Jesus,Mary wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalen. The other followers of Christ were absent. Being absent, they would not have seen the flowing of blood caused by thorns and nails, the wine mixed with gall. They would not have heard Jesus’ desperate cry to His Father. They would not have heard Jesus’ words to John, “Behold your Mother”, giving her status as the Church's Mother. The disciples who left the execution later witnessed the risen Christ, but not the suffering one. While both Protestants and Catholics worship a risen Jesus, we Catholics, using the crucifix, symbolize those who did not abandon Jesus.

Reverence For Mass

We are losing that sense of reverence for the Holy Eucharist by the way we rush in and out of Mass, the way we dress for Mass, the use of cell phones during Mass, among other things. Do you agree?
