Catholic Church Teachings – Believe Or Not

As A Catholic, Should I Accept All Catholic Church Teachings?

Every single thing that the Catholic Church teaches has its root and foundation is Matthew 16: 18 – 19.  Here Jesus, the Son of God decreed, “So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven: whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.’  Therefore, everything that the Catholic Church teaches originates from God our Father, through Jesus Christ His Son and by the Power of the Holy Spirit.  Therefore, everything that the Holy Catholic Church teaches is 100% true.  Therefore, as a true Catholic, I must believe all that the Catholic Church teaches.

If you wish to call yourself Catholic, however you ‘reserve the right’ to pick and choose for yourself which of the trainings of the Catholic Church to accept and which to reject, then by extension you give everyone else who calls themselves Catholic the right to do the same thing.

For example, you think women should be priests … in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1577 states, “Only a baptized man validly gets ordination … For this reason the ordination of women is not possible!” So ok, you choose not to believe that … well, that’s fine; … simply tear that page from your Catechism … you just made it a Catechism of your Catholic Church … not mine; and we end up with a truncated, incomplete, and incorrect Catholic Catechism.

Let us be honest with ourselves.  What is at the very root of selectively choosing what to believe from the teachings of the Catholic Church?  Is it not sin?  For those who call themselves Catholic and pick and choose what to believe from the teachings of the Catholic Church; if they are honest with themselves, they will see and admit that the root cause behind their rejection of some of the teachings of the Catholic Church is sin. For example, the Catholic Church teaches that sex outside of marriage is wrong.  Persons who oppose this are generally doing exactly what the Catholic Church says is wrong to do.  So it is never that the Catholic Church is wrong about any of its teachings, but rather that people. caught up in sin would like the Catholic Church to ‘bend the truth’ to accommodate their sins and their lives lived in lies.

Bear in mind, if you could throw doctrines out, so can everybody else who calls themselves Catholic. That offers ‘Joe Parishioner’ over at ‘St. Doubting Thomas’ Catholic Church the right to throw out the Church’s social justice teachings … since he does not like feeding the hungry and caring for the poor, and all that kind of stuff.  So there goes paragraphs 2401 -2463 of the Catholic Catechism, as well as Jesus’ teachings on the last judgement in Matthew 25: 31 – 46.

Someone else thinks that contraception is okay, and that the Catholic Church has no right to tell them what they can and cannot do, and with whom, in the privacy of their bedroom.  Paragraph 2370 states contraception is intrinsically evil! So there goes that teaching of the Catholic Church.  Joe Parishioner does not like what the Catholic Church teachings on the death penalty – Paragraphs 2266-2267 – so he disregards that one.  And it goes on and on.

Can you see exactly what’s occurring? This is why there are so many ‘Christian denominations’, when in fact, Jesus established only one – the Holy Catholic Church.  I have heard it said that while there is a shortage of vocations to the priesthood, there is no shortage of occupations to the Papacy!  If we do not accept and believe all that the Catholic Church teaches, and choose to appoint ourselves as ‘pope’  and attempt to re-write the catholic Church teachings, then simply put, we are NOT CATHOLIC!
